About The Mungunui Lodge

 

Established in 1987, the Mungunui Lodge offers premium hunting grounds with big game including some of the largest Red Stag in the southern hemisphere. Based in the heart of the Waikato, our Waitomo based operation features some of the best terrain the district has to offer including privately owned native and views of the Tasman Sea.

Our hunting areas are varied, consisting of several streams, heavily wooded gully's with open glens surrounded by picturesque and pure New Zealand scenery.

The Lodge runs on a powerful wind & solar powered system, making the lodge truly eco-friendly & self-sufficient. You'll enjoy outstanding views of the privately owned 2000 acre hunting area with aspects of the Tasman Sea & surrounding national forests.

 

What are you hunting?

In our hunting areas, you will typically observe between 5 -10 red stags per day ranging from 280sci - 500sci and above. Other species to be seen during the hunt include Sika, Samba, Fallow, Rusa, Arapawa Sheep, & Feral Goats with the occasional mob of wild Boar.

All the species can be observed & hunted in our private hunting area. The area is best hunted using "spot & stalk" technique - this allows for exciting opportunities to target shots from 100 - 250 yards.

Local attractions

The lodge is well placed providing convenient access to activities for non hunters & bad weather days. The world famous Waitomo Glow Worm Caves are only a 30 minute drive from the lodge, and offer spectacular cave tours. There are also a variety of cafes, restaurants and activities in the near by Waitomo visitor area.
